Itinerary

Day 1: Paris – Versailles – Rouen

  • Morning: We’ll depart from Paris and start our day at the Versailles Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These gardens are a masterpiece of André Le Nôtre, featuring grand fountains, canals, and geometric flower beds and groves.
  • Afternoon: We’ll then drive to Rouen. Once there, we’ll explore the majestic Rouen Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and the historical Gros Horloge.
  • Evening: We’ll have dinner in a local Rouen restaurant, savoring Norman specialties, like duckling à la Rouennaise or Neufchâtel cheese.

Day 2: Rouen – Miromesnil – Agapanthe – Rouen

  • Morning: Setting out for Miromesnil, the birthplace of Guy de Maupassant, we’ll be captivated by its beautifully manicured gardens. As we wander, we’ll appreciate the blend of French formal and English informal designs. The combination of flowers, vegetables and fruit in the kitchen garden behind the house is pure magic!
  • Afternoon: Our journey continues to Agapanthe, a garden known for its contemporary design and the owner’s ‘old garden’ which is also now opened. Wander through its rooms filled with rare plants, sculptures, and water features. This garden is a modern masterpiece, and its design is ever-evolving, reflecting the owner’s travels and inspirations.
  • Evening: We’ll head back to Rouen. If there is time, perhaps you might like to visit the Museum of Fine Arts to see an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and drawings.

Day 3: Rouen – Valérianes – Plume – Rouen

  • Morning: We’ll travel to Valérianes, a tranquil garden oasis known for its harmonious mix of colors, scents, and textures, complete with winding paths and intimate corners. Here there are two gardens to see.  A tranquil informal garden in cottage style (Madame’s garden) and at the other side,  a collector’s garden with many shrubs and special trees (Monsieur’s garden) . Both gardens are very good.
  • Afternoon: Next, we’ll visit Plume Garden, a modern sanctuary showcasing a diverse mix of perennials, grasses, and shrubs, designed to captivate throughout the seasons. Plume is a  wonderful garden with a completely different planting style. Influenced by Dutch designer Oudolf, you’ll see many grasses, perennials and beautifully clipped hedges. This garden cannot be compared to any other.
  • Evening: We’ll return to Rouen. There, you’re free to explore Rouen’s historic streets, soaking in its rich history, or simply unwind in your hotel.

Day 4: Rouen – Etretat – Henri le Sidaner – Rouen

  • Morning: We’ll drive to Etretat. The town is known for its natural white cliffs, natural arches, and the pointed “needle”. The views are breathtaking and have inspired many artists.
  • Afternoon: We’ll visit the gardens of Henri le Sidaner, which are a testament to the artist’s passion for gardening and his artistic sensibilities. The terraced gardens offer a serene ambiance, with each terrace dedicated to a specific hue, creating a painter’s palette in nature.
  • Evening: We return to Rouen.

Day 5: Rouen – Angelique – Free Time – Rouen

  • Morning: Our journey takes us to the Angelique Gardens. Often the success of a garden comes from its atmosphere and ambiance. These gardens are a harmonious blend of colours, scents, and designs.  The informal area with its labyrinthine network of paths is lovely just to slowly wander around or sit.
  • Afternoon: You’ll have free time to explore Rouen or relax.
  • Evening: We’ll head back to our accommodation in Rouen.

Day 6: Rouen – Digeon – Maizicourt – Rouen

  • Morning: Our journey takes us to Chateau de Digeon where we’ll be enchanted by its blend of English and French garden style and diverse plantings.
  • Afternoon: Afterwards, we’ll head to Maizicourt to visit the meticulously designed gardens of the Château de Maizicourt. The garden here is known for its geometric design, rose gardens, topiaries, as well as an impressive alley of arches alongside a water garden.
  • Evening: We return to Rouen for the last night of the tour.

Day 7: Rouen – Monet’s Garden in Giverny – Paris

  • Morning: We depart for Giverny to visit Monet’s House and Gardens. Here you’ll see the famous water lily pond, the Japanese-inspired water garden bridge, and the colorful flower gardens that inspired many of Monet’s paintings. The gardens are a living canvas that Monet painted over and over again.  You’ll also have time to explore Giverny town, a short walking distance from the garden. Here you can visit Monet’s grave, the American Museum or just explore the streets of this charming French town.
  • Afternoon: We’ll drive back to Paris. Spend the evening exploring Montmartre, visiting the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, and enjoying panoramic views of the city. Alternatively, take a stroll along the Seine and dine in a typical bistro.
