Crete’s wild orchids grow in a variety of habitats, including rocky slopes, grasslands, and forests. They are adapted to the island’s Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
Crete’s wild orchids are protected under Greek law, and it is illegal to collect or disturb them. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and preserve these important plants, which are vital to the island’s ecosystem.
In addition to their ecological importance, wild orchids in Crete are also valued for their beauty and are often used in horticulture and landscaping. They are a popular attraction for tourists and are often featured in guided nature tours of the island.
